This is a film adaptation of Heleen van Royen's bestseller. Julia (Isa Hoes) has a good job, lives in a new-build house and has two children with the caring Paul (Kees Boot). But in the kitchen drawer are antidepressants. She had imagined her life so differently when she was young. Julie and her little brother Jimmy (Matthijs van de Sande Bakhuyzen) used to fantasise about it. Their tragic goodbye was twenty years ago, but it won't let her go. After an argument with Paul, Julia decides to change course radically. She leaves - in the spirit of Jimmy - for the Portuguese Algarve. She makes new friends and changes her appearance, but gradually discovers that escaping is not the same as becoming happy. When she meets the mysterious gigolo Romeo (Edwin Jonker), Julia's past comes closer than ever.
