GALAPAGOS: HOPE FOR THE FUTURE | cinema release: October 31
GALAPAGOS: Hope for the Future is a beautiful portrait of the unique archipelago and its nature in the middle of the Pacific Ocean near Ecuador. It is a film full of beautiful images of untouched nature and special animal species such as the Galapagos penguins, hammerhead sharks, Blue Footed Boobies and the largest turtles in the world. The Galapagos, famous worldwide by Charles Darwin, who based his pioneering theories on the exceptional nature of the Galapagos, is, like the rest of the world, threatened by climate change and human influences. The film highlights a new side of the Galapagos, one where humans and animals are close together. It tells the hopeful story of passionate researchers who are committed to making this special but fragile ecosystem future-proof. GALAPAGOS: Hope for the Future takes the viewer on an inspiring journey to a sustainable future.
NATURE CONSERVATION FILMS - Evert van den Bos
Director Evert van den Bos has already produced 150 nature films. He has made critically acclaimed films such as TheLeopard Son, Serengeti Symphony, African Bambi and Survivor and is the Netherlands' most prolific wildlife filmmaker. GALAPAGOS: Hope for the Future is his biggest film project. While Evert van den Bos was still in Africa for another film, he was looking for people to help him raise funds. He ended up with an old acquaintance, now the director of the COmON Foundation, who approached him with a completely different proposal: the foundation wanted a film about the joint efforts of the Charles Darwin Foundation and the Galapagos National Park to create this unique archipelago to preserve for the future. It took some getting used to working on the Galapagos Islands. “75 of my 150 films were shot in Tanzania and the surrounding area. I knew about every rock by heart, and you can sit there under a tree for two months. Sometimes we only had a few hours here ”, says Van den Bos.
